4 Reasons Why H&M x BALMAIN Collection Is The Best Collab Yet

By Caylnn M. Lawrence

The Designer Collaboration, H&M x Balmain was released in school earlier this month and caused quite a frenzy all across H&M’s worldwide! According to Harper’s Bazaar, people were lined up outside of the stores as early as 2 PM the previous day in order to assure their chances of purchasing even just one item from the stunner collection. You might think to yourself, “What makes this collection so special? What’s all the fuss?” Well, this article is here to tell you 5 major reasons why H&M x Balmain is their most popular designer collab yet!

The infamous Kardashian – Jenner clan always has their hands in another business deal, part of the reason they are so successful in their endeavors. Unsurprisingly, they have been recruited on board to endorse the H&M x Balmain collection. Budding supermodel in the making, Kendall Jenner, is the main component of this operation. She gracefully models the clothing in a dignified and professional manner both on the runway, in print and in person. This is done alongside her sisters who casually sport items from the collection when on the go and for red carpet appearances! After all, who doesn’t love the Kardashians, right? Who wouldn’t feel compelled to go out and purchase items from a collection worn by a multimillion dollar family!?

When perusing the H&M website, it is very easy to notice that the prices for the Balmain collection are drastically lower than a typical Balmain garment. This is because H&M works to create quality stylish pieces without the high end price tag. For example, if you look at the cost of the green sequin embroidered dress you will notice that it is only $199. If you compare this to the average cost of a typical Balmain dress, it is less than a fifth of the price! At such a great discount, there is no wonder why millions of people are going bonkers over this collection!

Edginess is now the trend for those of us who like to stay on top of the fashion wave. Therefore, anything that denotes a slight sense of strength, boldness and individuality is certainly all the rage. Looking at the collection, you can notice that there are prominent elements of European regality juxtaposed with chic grunge couture! This combination is not something conceivably easy to pull of yet it was executed perfectly in regards to this collection.

The H&M x Balmain collection features items of every category from shirts to dresses to trousers to accessories! This is not something that only features a few similar pieces and stops short at that. The collection has a wide variety of items suitable for all styles. Yet, despite having a collection so diverse in components, each piece shares the same like minded essence that unifies them greatly.

As you can see, there are many reasons why you should go check out the H&M x Balmain collection. If you would like to see which items might fit you best, you can visit the Balmain Sight

5 Amazing Shopping Apps For The Fashionista

By Simi A Mira

1. Depop

Picture the love child of Instagram and eBay and you have Depop. You can sell anything on here, but the trendy app is dominated by used vintage clothing, unworn or no longer wanted garments, home accessories and tonnes of random little finds. It’s suited to the quirky Urban Outfitter type who likes to stay one step ahead whilst keeping their own sense of style. There are some real one-off finds on here, so it’s worth downloading the app and scouring for some steals – there’s plenty of retro and designer garments, heels and bags to be found here.

The name of this app is already a winner – who needs to be told twice?! The unique thing about the Keep Shopping app is that it utilized a really amazing idea and brought it to life – it created the world’s first universal fashion buying app that allows us time strapped fashion lovers to purchase any item or brand from the SAME checkout cart. It’s a genius idea. As they say on their webpage, Keep is “addictive shopping”, and even has a “shop Instagram” feature that will no doubt be wholly made use of.

4. Mallzee

Cute name, really great shopping app. Whilst it boasts the same capabilities as other shopping apps out there, it does stand out from the crowd due to a very handy feature on it that any style lover with a decrease in budget will love. The helpful app will email you notifications when the Givenchy bag you’ve been adorning over has had a price slash, or when that Vera Wang clutch has been marked down. Once you have found your winning piece(s), you can they happily checkout via the app.

KickBoxing: The Model Workout

By Alex K
Blog – Runway Duty

Although not many people in my town don’t do sports, I know a lot of models are too busy for outside activities. The difficult thing is that you can’t expect to get jobs if you’re not fit. So what’s an activity that doesn’t take much time out of your day, but gets you fit and feeling strong? Kickboxing.

Unlike most of my friends I play zero sports- I just don’t have the time now. But I still need to be able to make it up three flights of stairs at school without passing out, or walk down the runway and not be gasping for air.

First, I tried running outside. This seemed like a good idea, until I actually set out and found myself constantly slipping on ice from the recent Nor’Easter blizzard. Until I found a treadmill, running was out of the picture.

Then I tried doing workouts at home on my floor, using youtuber “Blogilates” as my mentor. I found, however, it was more than difficult to motivate myself everyday after school to work out- plus, no one was there to see me flake.

Finally, my friend Maya texted me, and asked me if I wanted to try kickboxing with her. With no other options, I quickly responded with a thumbs-up emoji.

The class was an hour long and burned off over 700 calories. We both enjoyed it so much over an angry rowing coach or a 5-mile run. The best part wasn’t even the awesome muscles we gained, it was how it eased our stress.

After a long and busy day at school, it was nice to go to a class (out of town, away from my peers) and just punch over and over. Punching and kicking not only builds muscle and burns fat, and burns off all anger and anxieties.

The trend

A lot of the famous models and Victoria’s Secret Angels are catching on to the kickboxing trend as well. Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, Taylor Swift, and Elsa Hosk to name a few.

“I only box. It’s the only thing that keeps me sane. I can’t just go to the gym and run. I’d rather die” said Hadid. Hadid’s trainer Rob Piela understands the pressure she’s under as well. Sometimes they just “lie on the floor and talk.”

You don’t have to be a model to kick box. Most of the women in my class are tattooed mother’s or grandmother’s. I actually feel more of an outsider, but they’re all sweet and give me tips on punching.

The benefits

1. Kickboxing requires the use of all muscle groups. Upper body, lower body, and core. “The legs become more toned and defined through the kicks and jumping movements. The core and torso area of the body is conditioned through the requirements to rotate, bend and support all movements and sequences that are performed. The back, shoulders and arms are conditioned through the movements that require punching and blocking” said FitnessHealth101.

2. It improves your flexibility, as well as your balance and agility.

3. Always a challenging activity- you can always improve.

4. Raises the heart rate and improves cardiovascular activity.

5. You get all your anger out on the bag or your partner instead of your annoying sibling or nagging parent.

6. The skills you learn can actually be used. Warn anyone who wants to rob your house before-hand.

How To Get A Bangin’ Beach Body

By Calynn M. Lawrence

Have you always wanted to get a nice, sultry beach body for the summer heat? Well, this article is going to tell you exactly how you can achieve that without having to go on any crazy crash diets, take any pills, have any surgery or do any extreme work out regimens! Follow the tips below and you are sure to get that much closer to your best beach body yet.

We would all love to have a perfect Victoria’s Secret body but it isn’t always obtainable. You ought examine your body type and decide what you think is a reasonable goal that you are willing to pursue and alot yourself a set time frame. For example, if you have a full hour glass figure, chances are that you’ll never look like Alessandra Ambrosio. But, you could very reasonably obtain a healthy but curvy figure such as Beyonce or Jennifer Lopez. Or if you are someone who is very tall and lean, then you probably won’t be able to get a Shakira figure. But, you could very reasonably obtain a nicely toned, but feminine physique such as Kendall Jenner. Finding “thinspirations” that actually resemble your natural shape is the key to not having disappointments in your weight loss journey.

Notice the post did not say go on a diet or a fast. It says to change your eating habits altogether. Now, if you choose to kick start your weight loss journey by going on a more calorie restricted eating regimen, that is fine but remeber to only do such for a limited time. This is to keep your body from becoming accustomed to such a narrow eating schedule so that once you stop your diet, you will not instantly gain all of your weight back. Try making healthier choices such as only eating out on weekends, finding food substitutions (i.e subbing your icecream for frozen yogurt), pre made meal plans and possibly even shopping organically! There are so many ways to incorporate helthy eating into your life that there is no reason for you to struggle.

Water is the life source of the body. Because our bodies are made of mostly water, our system thrives on it! Thus, instead of drinking all of those heavily carbonated, sugar drenched juices and sodas, hydrate yourself with a nice glass of cold water! This is going to help you save calories, sugar and acrbs for what really counts: food! Plus, water also helps replenish the body for clearer skin, healthier hair and stronger longer nails!

Joining a gym is awesome if you have the time and the money. However, it is not at all a necessity. Simply try your best to incorporate movement into your daily routine as much as possible. For example, if you drive alot, you can try to make it a habit to walk more often. If you always fing yourself opting for the elevator or escalator, take the stairs, even if it’s a few flights up! Go to your local Walmart or Target and pick up a couple of fun work out DVD’s that will give you the same power of going to a class at a gym but at teh convenience of being in your own home on your own time!

Do not make this more serious than it needs to be. The more dreadful you make your weight loss, the less likely you are to stick to it! So have a good heart and a string mind and make this a lifestyle!

There you have it! Those are your top tips to your best beach body.

5 Routine Daily Exercises

By Naima Karp

Since most of us are totally helpless when it comes to exercise, we’ve hired a Pilates expert to give you a few tips on how to fit key fitness moves into your daily routines. Here are five of the most effective moves you need to add to your daily exercises.

The Roll Up

The Roll Up is one of the most effective Pilates moves (one roll up can be equal to multiple sit-ups). The key here is slow movement – people often equate strength with fast movements that burn your body out quickly, but the slowness here helps you gain stability and strength in your core. Rather than propelling your chest up into a sitting position, slowly and gradually curl up starting from the shoulder blades, then curling into the upper abs, until you eventually fold over both legs as far as you can reach. Reverse the process as you roll back down. Remember to keep your back neutral: this means minimal arch in the lower back, which will result in more core work and will also protect your spine from injury. (2 reps. Of 25.)

Leg Circles

For this exercise, lie on your back and lift your legs up straight. Make circles or semi-circles with your legs – the smaller and more controlled the movement is, the tighter the results in your glutes and thighs will be. Reverse the circles midway through, and play around with simultaneous circles with both legs, eventually evolving into a move called the corkscrew. The corkscrew is where you keep both legs glued together and make large circles with them, reversing the direction of the circle halfway through a rep. This will provide some good burn on the lower abs as well as your legs, cutting even more time off your workout. (3 reps. Of 30.)

Balancing on your forearms, stretch your body out to a push up position. Keep your back as straight as possible and draw your belly button into your spine. For more oblique work, tap your right hip bone to the ground, return to center, tap your left hip bone to the ground. For more arm work, alternate between lying on your forearms and pushing yourself up to a full push-up position (if you can, sneak in one pushup per rep). To tone up your butt, alternate lifting legs as you hold your plank position. (3 reps. Hold each plank for 30 seconds, or challenge yourself to a full minute.)

Tricep Dips

You don’t have to miss a minute of that Real Housewives episode for this one. Pull a chair up next to the TV and press your palms into the seat. Your feet should be shoulder width apart. With your butt in the air, positioned like a Roman chair, push yourself up and down. Make sure to straighten your arms as your propel yourself up. Try lifting one hand off and propelling yourself upwards with the other. Keep your core tight, sucking your belly button in. (3 reps. Of 20.)

All around body toner: The Hundred

For The Hundred, you need to make a v-shape with your body. Lift your shoulders up as well as your legs, with only your bottom glued to the ground (if bringing your shoulder blades off the ground is too difficult, keep your head and neck up). With your legs up in the air, stick your arms out straight and pulse them up and down. If you want more leg work, play around with crossing your legs or scissoring them at various paces. For more core work, you can pulse your upper body up and down on an angle. (3 reps. Of 15 second holds.)

Rule Of Thumb For Your First Fashion Week

While most people have the absolute view of models front and centre, I can tell you the truth about what it’s like to be on a runway. Most people ask if it is glamorous and what really goes on behind the scenes. At the end of the day, there is too much to explain when it in comes to the hustle and bustle … my first major runway show (New York Fashion Week), was extreme to say the least. From non-fashion week shows, I thought I knew what I was in for, but this experience was amazing to say the least. The following is a brief synopsis.

Rule of thumb number one

Forget sleeping. Fashion week you do not sleep period. I have a strict schedule. When I wake up I work out, followed by a super-healthy breakfast. I always choose protein (scrambled eggs) and fruit. This is the only time of the day that I eat carbs. Period. Most importantly, I pack for the rest of the day, but when it comes to fashion week, it comes to several healthy snacks. I choose, as most models do, select foods that are not going to bloat you up when you strut down the runway. Personally for me, I like carrots and other healthy veggies, in addition to protein snacks. You really never know what they are going to serve on the catering table and usually it is really high carbohydrate-wise.

Rule of thumb number two

Prepare to run. I am not talking ruining your designer shoes. I am talking about really packing up your flip-flops or whatever else you have comfy, and prepare to run. This is how it goes down. There are last minute fittings, last minute hair consultations and you have to attend all before every show. Fashion week is the mother of all of this craziness, because you need to make it to every show when you are booked. This isn’t a really problem obviously, but get prepared to run.

Rule of thumb number three

Your best friends are the photographers, publicists and stylists. Play nice in this playground, because they can make or break your career. I am not joking here in the slightest. When you have several people working on you, you are essentially in their hands and in the fashion designer’s hands. This is no time for diva behaviour and if you have your team of the day that appreciates you, they will be more apt to recommend and promote you in the future.

Rule of thumb number four

While you will want to really have a fabulous time at the after party event, my advice is don’t. Celebrate with caution, especially, if you have a new show to debut in the a.m. After all, alcohol equals massive bags under your eyeballs which will put you nowhere. The smart networking thing to do is to show up, take a couple of photo opportunities looking model ready with key industry execs and head home for a good night’s sleep ahead for day number two.

Your Face Does Not Need Auto-Correct

By Margretta Sowah

We all know there is no shortage of Photoshop type apps which promise “flawless skin” and “picture perfect results.” If beauty is the standard, what is premium and, more importantly, what is inferior? Is it being overweight and courting bad skin or is it not having the prized stereotypical model features? (Cindy Crawford deserves to be unique; stay away from that pencil for good!) Whatever it is, we equate being beautiful with being successful. Is it like that old adage of if you are optimistic you are therefore happier? Does beauty, whether true or false, lead to higher self-esteem? We all know how we feel when we just get our hair buffed and fluffed; prancing out of the salon – ready to take over the world, or at least the nearest bar.

Facetune is a physical enhancement application that launched in 2013. It promises “exact results, for one and all […]” and that we, as conscious consumers, “don’t need to wait for the perfect shot!” – Heaven forbid we spend more time offline than on. This concept is understandable. What the market wants, the market gets. However let’s not confuse what is convenient with what is appropriate. With stats like 46k and counting on Facebook as well over 1000 on Instagram; what could possibly be the problem with an App like this?

For one thing; what is the message being expressed by its makers? And is it relating with the experience us users are creating? Many of us are quick to stand up and say “Models are too thin! We need to be more health conscious!” And so on but what about on our own continual Fashion Show – Life? We are essentially promoting ourselves when we are on Social Media sites; putting in taglines and our finest selfies, but are we really ready for our close-ups?

Attention comes in different forms and, sadly, leaves in just as many. In the digital age we all crave this luxury. Others have tried to buy it – (sell and swap) but the most prevalent currency is beauty. The digital revolution has been at the forefront of psychological and sociological studies to do with esteem and what we deem as personal value – the chicken and the egg theory.

Any company worth its salt know that with the right implementation they can rake in some serious De Niro because of these new insights. This concept seemed near impossible a decade ago when Facebook could have been a euphemism for a photo album. The rise of Social Media means customers are at the forefront of businesses… and by customers I mean celebrities and personas.
Celebrities have been called out for Photoshopping Instagram pictures – badly (Miranda Kerr and, yes, even Queen B) which are all said to be because of an unsuspecting intern. We can’t blame magazines for this image of perfection or even the Fashion Industry because if we travel across the globe there are different staples of beauty and idealism. We can’t blame Facetune either for giving us this platform so ‘with the tiniest bit of effort anyone can achieve great looking photos’.

With appropriately named Silicon Valley app creators; it seems these digital entrepreneurs are delivering on their promise (their end of the bargain) to give average consumers, like you and I, an avenue to protected perfection. Promoting a beautiful life is no doubt trendy – as it does not produce disappointment. The principle of branding is to sell a promise – an ideal that those who purchase will in fact receive benefits. There is also the “group factor” where we all want to be a part of something; and we all are. Does an App like this promote togetherness or is it supporting a fake ideal of a subculture of beauty? Let’s rephrase; where there is no buyer, there is no seller.

It ultimately comes down to a moral decision for the end-user. Much like almost everything we buy; there needs to be a consideration for whether its #iWant or #iNeed. People don’t buy products for features; they purchase benefits and emotional meaning.

The benefit of an App like this is being able to place your “best face” forward. But is it actually YOUR face? Sure, it looks like you, sounds like you, smells like you (if that’s what your into) but is it a real representations of you – meaning if someone was to meet, let’s say, Alice, at a cafe after engaging in Social Media friending acrobatics, would Alice be as Alice is? Or would you be shocked (disappointed) to find that Alice’s eyes aren’t blue, they are brown. And Alice doesn’t have a beauty mark on her face or another part of her body, for that matter. Alice still is the twenty something fun-loving, yoga practicing, corporate working, Starbucks drinking woman you were impressed with. Only now she is a bit taller than anticipated and her clothes are a bit tighter than you recall.

Is it Alice that is lying, or is she putting on her “Autotune” to attract the best as she would with makeup or hair extensions?

Now, I don’t see anything wrong with that but I don’t see much right with it either.

Model Millionaires: Lais Ribeiro

By Calynn M. Lawrence

Lais Ribeiro is the Brazilian bombshell fashion model with a tiny waist and stark round curves  who has been newly initiated as one of Victoria’s Secret Angels. Lais Ribeiro has walked the catwalk for huge names such as  Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs! Yet, what is just as impressive as her portfolio is her encouraging rise to fame. The literal rags to riches come up is beautiful and certainly exemplifies that you do not need to be perfect to be a success.

So how did she begin her career? Well, sources say that a year after giving birth to her son ,Alexandre, she followed her friend’s advice and started working as a model in her home country Brazil. Clearly, she earned a lot of work and within a few years was ble to land some high ranking jobs. In 2009, she walked in major international fashion shows for designers such as Shiatzy Chen, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, and Marc Jacobs. In Brazil fashion Week, for the spring-summer 2011 collections, Ribeiro was the most booked runway model with 27 shows during Sao Paulo Fashion Week and 26 shows during Rio Fashion Week.

Some of the magazine features (and covers) that she has landed are American, Brazilian, German, and Italian Vogue, as well as appearing in ad campaigns for Ralph Lauren, Christian Dior, Tom Ford, GAP and American Eagle.

As was one of ten models to earn their ‘wings’ and be named as one of Victoria’s Secret’s new Angels , Lais who has a seven-year-old son named Alexandre, has come a long away to the glitz and glmour of the fashion industry. She was born in Teresina, Piauí, and was raised in a remote rural town in Brazil. She never considered becoming a model until she was a teen mother.

Lais has appeared in the 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, as well as the 2011 Christmas commercial and the 2012 Valentine’s Day commercialIn 2013, because of what happened, the Victoria’s Secret producers gave Lais the opportunity to open the Birds of Paradise segment. As a means of giving back Lais donates to the needy and participates in The Charity Ride for Pelotonia! She also works as an activist for teen mothers, fighting discrimination against them. What an example she is.

The Must-Have Jewelry Trends Of The Season

By Michele Smith
Facebook – MicheleSmithMarketing

A trendy, fashionable outfit can quickly go south without accessories (this makes an outfit look absolutely naked) or the wrong accessories (you might as well not leave the house). There are certain trends that are in this season that are not only simple accessories, but they are even affordable too! How does one look like a supermodel without breaking the bank? If you pick up a couple of the following jewelry accessories, you can look fabulous this fall, while saving plenty of money for future holiday expenditures.

A favorite this fall season is the ever-so-versatile arm cuffs. Arm cuffs (bracelets) were all the rage in the 80’s, from neon to various costume accessories and they have made a serious comeback. Stars like Selena Gomez tend to wear the arm cuffs higher up the forearm or even on the upper arm at chest level. Arm cuffs are quite versatile as you can even wear them dangling from the wrists.

What is the comeback difference from the 80’s? For those who want to be fashionable this season, opt for gold or silver verses the popular day-glow colors of 1982. Affordable and popular labels for arm cuff accessories include Statements by DCK, Madewell, Catbird, to name just a few.

On the accessory cuff trend also includes the unquestionably popular ear cuffs. Ear cuffs (think earrings) are the best jewelry earring accessory to bring out that bad biker girl look without having to physically go out and get multiple piercings. Stars like Diane Kruger, Miley Cyrus and Emma Watson have been photographed wearing multiple ear cuffs (think two or three) and this trendy look clearly channels one’s inner bad girl. Affordable and trendy brands include Tomas, Species by the Thousands, Luv AJ and Nasty Gal.

Layers are in, even when it comes to the season’s jewelry accessories, which is apparent by the emerging Midi Ring trend. What are Midi Rings? Midi Rings are multiple stacks of tiny rings that are worn on one finger. This layered ring look is not only easy to pull off, but one can also accessorize with rings that are designed in multiple colors and textures, if they do not want to go for a matching look. Many fashionistas even go so far to practice stacked ring Feng Shui.

Typically, this look is all about balance with four or five matching rings on the first finger, a tall shaped ring on the middle and the balanced look is completed with a short stack of different sized rings on the ring finger. While this may sound complicated, it is actually quite easy to achieve the trendy look. Nasty Gal offers the Midi Rings on the lesser expensive side (retail price $15.00) and brands such as Catbird are on the more expensive side (retail price $195.00), however the Catbird Midi Rings are 14K and come in rose, white and yellow gold.
